PAROTID SWELLING
A Lump Near the Jaw? Don't Ignore It!
Enlargement of the parotid gland (largest salivary gland)
Located in front of the ear and behind the jaw
Caused by infection, stones, tumors, or autoimmune condition
Swelling near the cheek or jaw
Pain or tenderness over the gland
Dry mouth or difficulty swallowing
Fever or pus discharge from duct
Facial weakness or asymmetry (rare but serious)
Parotitis: bacterial or viral infection (e.g. mumps)
Sialolithiasis: salivary duct stones
Pleomorphic adenoma, benign tumor
Warthins tumor, mucoepidermoid carcinoma
Sjögren's syndrome, sarcoidosis
ENT exam & imaging (ultrasound, MRI, FNAC)
Medical care: antibiotics, hydration, massage
Surgical options: parotidectomy for tumors or chronic infections
Regular follow-up for recurrence or malignancy screening
